Lighten the Load

Anthony Childs Easy to enjoy, difficult to describe. Recognizable as 310, but fidelity, frequencies and moods are higher, wider, deeper. As the cover suggests: more colors. Not tied to the past Noir textures and moods while remaining cinematic and mysterious. Obvious artistic growth expanded outlook & themes, but also so subtle you might miss a lot (repeated listens rewarded as with all good music). Really glad Joseph & Tim are not only active but creatively thriving. Highly recommended! Favorite track: Tar Beach.

about

© 2024

310’s tenth full length album, Lighten the Load, follows fairly close on the heels of their 2022 album Ruminant as part of a creative surge Joseph Dierker and Tim Donovan have been enjoying for the past four years. Joining them on this one is their long-time buddy since their college days, George Turner (GT), who lays down some of his unique guitar genius on “Unload”. Frequent 310 collaborator Ralph Rolle lends some soft drum touches on “Redacted Travel” and “The Most Perfect Dance They Had Ever Seen”. Joseph’s brother Mark Dierker of Bear Dancer Studios provides one of his awesome photographs for the album which captures the spirit of these new tracks perfectly.

“When we begin mixing new tracks we’ve been working on into a possible album sequence, a narrative often emerges naturally from everything working together as one piece. This album began to feel to us like a cross country road trip coast to coast but in a dream state. In this traveling dream state, we suddenly find ourselves in one location not knowing exactly how we got there only to feel our feet land on the ground in another place before we realize it. We start out at the northwest coast and are guided by birds into midwestern strumming and then toward distant train calls in the deep south. We are led on by crickets to the northeast coast to reflect on the ease and flow of the trip on a tenement rooftop overlooking the river.”
